Russia to supply 200,000 tons of crude oil to Syria

Russia is preparing to supply 200,000 tons of crude oil to Syria, Reuters reported on Saturday.

Quoting the London Stock Exchange Group, the agency reported that two tankers designated for transporting crude oil will unload their cargoes in Tartous Governorate this March. The tankers are carrying crude oil sent by Russia to the Baniyas refinery, located on the Syrian coast in the countryside around the city of Tartous.

The agency noted that the oil tanker "Aquatica" arrived at the Syrian port of Tartous on Thursday, carrying approximately 100,000 tons of crude oil sent from Moscow.

Data reviewed by Reuters showed that the second tanker, "Sakina," is still on its way to Baniyas with another 100,000 tons of oil and is expected to arrive on the Syrian coast on March 25.

On March 6, the agency revealed that the Russian government had loaded an oil tanker with 37,000 barrels of low-sulfur diesel and sent it toward the Syrian coast.

According to Reuters, the Barbados-flagged tanker Prosperity loaded oil at the Russian port of Primorsk on the Baltic Sea on February 8.

The report indicated that the oil tanker belongs to the Dubai-based Fornax Ship Management company and is currently anchored near the port of Baniyas in Tartus Governorate, western Syria.

It should be noted that the Syrian government has not issued any announcement regarding an agreement with Russia to supply oil, although state media reported the arrival of an oil tanker at the port of Baniyas last Thursday, without specifying its source.
