Syria faces severe medicine crisis; Urgent appeal for cancer drugs: Health Ministry official

The Director of Planning and International Cooperation at the Syrian Ministry of Health warned of a severe shortage of cancer and oncology medications, considering the crisis a serious health and humanitarian disaster affecting thousands of patients and their families across the country.

During a press conference in Damascus, Zuhair Qaraat called on the United Nations, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the European Union's humanitarian aid funds, as well as friendly countries and international non-governmental organizations to provide the necessary pharmaceutical support to ensure the continuation of treatment for cancer patients.

The government official made the appeal "on behalf of patients awaiting their next dose, on behalf of mothers and fathers who cannot afford medicine, on behalf of doctors working without equipment, and on behalf of everyone who believes that health is a right and not a luxury."

Qaraat also stressed the need to remove international obstacles hindering the import of vital medicines, emphasizing that the continuation of this crisis puts the lives of thousands at risk and exacerbates the suffering of one of the most vulnerable groups in society.
