Washington plans to reduce military presence in Syria: Washington Post

A senior US official in the Trump administration told the Washington Post that Washington intends to reduce its military presence in Syria as part of a comprehensive review of US military deployments abroad.

The official indicated that the US administration has presented Damascus with a list of demands, including banning all militias and political activities linked to Palestinian movements and deporting members of these groups, to allay Israeli concerns.

Washington also asked the Syrian government to provide effective support for the US-led Operation Inherent Resolve against the Islamic State, stressing that the United States expects "actions, not words" from Damascus in this regard.

This move comes amid the continued threat posed by ISIS in Syria and Iraq. The United States seeks to ensure that the group does not re-emerge, through cooperation with local and international partners within the framework of the international coalition.

It is worth noting that the number of US forces in Syria currently stands at approximately 900, concentrated in the north and east of the country, working in coordination with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) to combat the remnants of the group.
