Security forces in the Yabroud area of rural Damascus thwarted an attempt to smuggle 1,250 landmines destined for Lebanon. Four individuals involved in the operation were arrested, while a fifth was neutralized.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Interior, the director of the security directorate, Khaled Taktouk, said that specialized units conducted a precise raid that resulted in the seizure of the landmines, which were equipped with detonators and intended for smuggling to Hezbollah in Lebanon. He confirmed that the entire shipment was successfully seized.
Taktouk added that the operation followed extensive investigations and close monitoring of the movements of those involved, leading to the identification of the smuggling location in the Jubbah area, north of rural Damascus, where the raid took place.
Throughout the Assad regime's war on the Syrian people and its reliance on Hezbollah, the Qalamoun region, bordering Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, has served as the primary conduit for smuggling operations by Hezbollah, including drugs and funds sent from Iran.
