Syrian Internal Security foils attempt to smuggle weapons into Lebanon

Syrian internal security forces have foiled an attempt to smuggle weapons into Lebanese territory, an Interior Ministry official said Monday.

The official told SANA that the operation was carried out by the Internal Security Directorate in al-Qusayr, Homs, in cooperation with its counterpart in al-Nabk, in the Damascus countryside. The action followed precise information about a suspicious vehicle moving from Jraijir village.

The official stated that a Chevrolet vehicle loaded with nine Konkurs guided missiles, 68 RPG charges, two 107 rockets, and five boxes of BKS ammunition was intercepted.

The source added that security units raided the gang’s hideout in Jairjir village, where the weapons had been stored, and discovered Russian-made magazines and a daytime scope.

This operation comes as part of the Interior Ministry’s ongoing efforts to combat smuggling, secure Syria’s borders, and maintain national security and stability.

In December, Syrian security forces intercepted another weapons-smuggling attempt, which involved a large quantity of RPG shells concealed in an organized manner. The shipment was intended to be smuggled from the Zabadani region in the Damascus countryside into Lebanon.

The Interior Ministry reaffirmed that combating smuggling networks remains a national priority, and that security operations will continue to strengthen border security and prevent attempts threatening citizens’ safety.
