300,000 Captagon pills seized in Syrian-Iraqi security operation

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday the thwarting of a massive drug smuggling operation in Homs province. The operation, described as "meticulously planned," was carried out in direct coordination with the Iraqi General Directorate for Combating Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

In a statement, the Ministry explained that the operation resulted in the arrest of two individuals, identified as "T.H." and "U.D.," both wanted internationally on drug trafficking charges. One of the men is a foreign national. They were apprehended while attempting to bring the shipment into Syrian territory, intending to smuggle it out of the country.

Precise Intelligence

Official sources stated that the successful seizure of the shipment was the result of highly accurate intelligence sharing through international security cooperation channels, followed by meticulous technical and field surveillance of the criminal network's activities. The raid led to the confiscation of approximately 300,000 Captagon pills from the two men.

Joint Operations

This operation comes less than a month after another major operation carried out on January 15, which targeted an international network and resulted in the seizure of 2.5 million Captagon pills and the arrest of several individuals involved in both countries.

The Ministry confirmed that all seized items were confiscated and the accused were referred to the competent judicial authorities to complete legal procedures. It emphasized that this coordination aims to enhance regional security and combat transnational and organized crime, which threaten to harm societies from the dangers of drugs.
