Abdul Qader Tahan appointed head of Syrian intelligence: Sources

Major General Abdul Qader Tahan was appointed head of the Syrian General Intelligence Directorate on Sunday, succeeding Brigadier General Hussein al-Salameh. This appointment is part of a restructuring of Syrian security and military institutions aimed at enhancing field efficiency and improving security performance in the current phase, according to a Zaman al-Wasl source.

Tahan is considered one of the most prominent security figures since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime. He has served as Deputy Minister of the Interior since the beginning of this year, following a distinguished career during which he held sensitive positions in the oversight and inspection department and commanded security sectors in northern Syria.

Tahan is viewed in political and field circles as a man for difficult tasks, given his extensive experience in field operations and security planning, particularly in managing coordination between security forces and maintaining stability in liberated areas.

Tahan's appointment to head the intelligence apparatus comes amidst complex regional and local challenges. He is expected to lead a comprehensive restructuring of the agency, aimed at strengthening proactive intelligence capabilities, improving information coordination, and ensuring the country's security and stability in light of ongoing political transformations.

Tahan is expected to begin his new duties immediately upon the issuance of the decree, with sources indicating that his first priorities will focus on strengthening the "information security" file and developing a comprehensive strategy to confront security breaches and dismantle anti-stability networks.
