My fellow citizen, my dear friend,
What you are about to read is not a joke, nor a children's story, but the details of a complex escape from an armed group!
In 2016, when American journalist Lindsey Snell was taken to a house-based prison run by the al-Nusra Front in the Aleppo countryside, she managed to convince the women detained with her to give her a phone to make a call; yes, just like that. But the deeper story hadn't even begun, and this is documented in her own account: when her cat escaped through the window, she asked the guards to release it temporarily so she could look for it. And indeed—guards of an organization supposedly known for its meticulousness—allowed it to leave. With the help of others, she made her way to the Turkish border, surrendered to the Turkish authorities, and was then transferred to the United States.
Again, this is her story: how she escaped the hell of an armed Islamist group through a "Meow Meow Plan"—not something I made up, nor a bedtime story for my daughter.
This story, told by the woman who claims to have been kidnapped by the Syrian chargé d'affaires in America (who calls her "aunt"), presents us with two possibilities:
- First: She is lying completely.
- Second: She was a welcome guest of Jabhat al-Nusra, who housed her with their women, allowed her to use a phone, raise cats, and leave her alleged detention location to search for her runaway cat. She even gave them press interviews.
This cat owner is known for her pro-Assad stance, which intensified after the liberation. She expressed concern for Christians, then claimed that those ruling Syria today are terrorists, and then criticized the meeting between the Syrian president and his American counterpart. She works for an obscure, pro-regime newspaper called *The Grayzone*, and has dedicated herself to supporting the SDF and advocating for secession from Syria.
Ultimately, the "cat drama and luxury cells" promoted by Lindsey Snell seem easily debunked. When intelligence reports and records of extremist groups are transformed into something resembling a Disney episode—where the detainee is allowed to keep pets, conduct field searches for escaped cats under the guards' supervision, and then simply surrenders at the border—we are not dealing with serious investigative journalism, but rather a cheap Hollywood thriller.
Attempts to recycle fabricated narratives and invent imaginary heroics on social media platforms will not conceal the dubious agendas of those desperately defending yesterday's tyrants and today's partition projects. Only the facts on the ground and the collapse of the lies of this "obscure press" will remain. As for the cat nonsense and the myths of the "Meow Meow Plan," their natural place is the dustbin of history.
My dear Qantari, Snell will call you, weeping and apologizing for her cheap story. Don't be swayed by her; hang up on her with a three-dimensional block.
