(Zaman Al Wasl)- The severe siege and lack of Medicine and food in many regions in Syria, caused widespread of many diseases and the return of many of it.
Many cases of Tuberculosis have been found in al-Ghouta, and cases are getting worse amid poor nutrition and lack of medication and poor hygiene.
The Syrian Media Authority presented a documentary about the case of Tuberculosis, in which Dr. Hoda al-Shami talked about the seriousness of cases especially with the combination among bad nutrition and poor hygiene.
"Al-Rahma" medical centre in al-Ghouta reported 100 cases of Tuberculosis, most of them children of different stages including the miliary Tuberculosis, which is considered the worst.
Tuberculosis (TB) is caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The bacteria usually attack the lungs, but TB bacteria can attack any part of the body such as the kidney, spine, and brain. If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal.
TB is spread through the air from one person to another. The TB bacteria are put into the air when a person with TB disease of the lungs or throat coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. People nearby may breathe in these bacteria and become infected, therefore the crowded environment the refugees and displaced people live in, is a risk factor for spreading the disease.
Moreover, body needs vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients to fight tuberculosis and obtain strength and immunity. Such as leafy green dark-colored vegetables like spinach, for their high iron and B-vitamin content are important, besides whole grains products like whole wheat bread. Carrots, peppers, and fruits, like tomatoes, blueberries and oranges are necessary for as they rich in antioxidant; not to forget cooking oil and meat.
