Assad targets National Figures in Sweida

National Forces Rally in Sweida province has issued a statement condemning the attempt of assassinating the well-known national figure, Abu Moeen Jamal Hunaidi, by an armed group.

The statement referred the crime responsibility to the Regime security forces as Mr. Hunaidi is known of his support to Syrian Revolution. Hunaidi tried his best to abort regime attempt to spoil the good relationships between Sweida and Daraa, and he resolved many arguments erupted on sectarian backgrounds between the two cities, besides, his prominent role in releasing hostages from both sides.

Most coordinators and national forces and groups signed the statement and they warned of the serious consequences of this incident and its impact on the city stability. The assault  threatened the civil peace in the city which dominated by Druze.

Activists considered the attack on Mr. Hunaidi is a real threat to the civil peace and a clear message to the people of the city.

Another warning sign of accelerating the tension in Sweida was a request made by Ali Mamlouk, head of the Office of Homeland Security Office in Syria to start a lawsuit against Ms. Muntaha al-Atrash under supporting terrorism charges. Montaha al-Atrash is the daughter Sultan Pasha al-Atrash, and granddaughter of Mujahid Sheikh Thuqan Atrash, both were national leader who led many battles against the Ottoman occupation, and she is known for her solid support to the Syrian revolution since the beginning.

As well as bothering and threatening the national figure, the humiliation reached judges as the first judge of the Initiating Court in Sweida (Mr. Ayman Al-harfush) has been beaten and insulted by a sergeant in the Regime Army following a traffic clash between the judge’s car and a military truck loaded with armed soldiers.

It has been known for a while that the regime tried to avoid the prejudice national symbols and figures, as harassment targeted only the rebellious youth, but the recent development in attacking figures who have historically been in a respected positions highlight a dramatic swift in circumstances going on in Sweida.
