(Translation by Yusra Ahmed)

Activists said at least 300 fighters from Homs city have participated in Idlib liberating battle under the banner of Fatah Army,  an alliance of Islamist groups including al Qaeda's Nusra Front that have seized the city of Idlib on Saturday for the first time in Syria's civil war.

Activist Mahmood Dabool told Zaman al-Wasl that 300 fighters form Homs have participated in the battle of Idlib including the commander of “Sunni Army” and other leaders.

Dabool said 13 fighters from Homs were killed while 25 others wounded in Idlib’s battle, while they were fighting under “Sunni Army” brigade.

Part of “Sunni Army” consists of Farouq Battalion in Baba Amr, as well as other battalions of Homs those trained in Lattakia countryside in the 10th Brigade’s camp.

The base of Sunni Army according to Dabool was the “camp for liberating Homs” and “al-Iman battalion” besides many people and other groups from Homs. They all had announced their merge to form the “Sunni Army” which joined “al-Fateh Army” that started the battle for liberating Idlib.

Seven fighters killed from Homs were documented by their names by activists. As well as “Sunni Army”, many of Homs’s fighters who left the city after the truce on May 2014, participated in the fighting in Idlib.

In relevant development, Syrian military intelligence has killed dozens of detainees in Idlib, couple of hours before the humiliating defeat by rebels.

Activists posted online footage reportedly was taken inside intelligence headquarters in the liberated city of Idlib showing tens of bodies.

The alliance includes al Qaeda's Nusra Front, the hardline Ahrar al-Sham movement and Jund al-Aqsa, but not Islamic State, their rival. They launched the offensive to capture Idlib city on Tuesday.

By taking Idlib, capital of a northwestern province of the same name, hardline Islamist insurgents now control a second province after Raqqa, the stronghold of the Islamic State group which has been the target of U.S.-led air strikes.

Syria's four-year-old war has killed more than 220,000 people and forced millions out of their homes.
