U.N. aid reached Rastan town despite aerial bombing

(Zaman, Al Wasl)- First cross-line convoy in November entered the hard-to-reach town of Rastan in central Homs province with aid for 107,500 people, U.N.'s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Tuesday.

Local activists said 51 vehicles carrying food rations entered the besieged town despite aerial bombing and repeated halt.

Sources of the Red Crescent reported to Zaman al-Wasl that the convoy contains 21500 food basket, 21500 bags of flour of 15 kilogram weight, besides medical equipments and materials and school books, 126 tons of foods for the collective kitchen in Rastan area.

This humanitarian convoy is the third entering Rastan during this year, since regime’s forces and air forces have prevented previous convoy from entering the area through targeting them or the route they were supposed to pass between Tir maala, Talbisa and Rastan.

Meanwhile, at least 8 civilians were killed in the northern countryside of Hama province when regime warplanes hit the town of Latamneh with five vacuum missiles, local activists said Tuesday.

The rebel-held countryside of central Homs province has been under severe siege along with constant aerial bombing.
