Five children from same family killed in tent fire in Damascus countryside

Five children from the same family were killed in a fire that engulfed two tents in the Damascus countryside overnight, Syria’s civil defense reported.

The blaze broke out late Tuesday in the town of Deir al-Hajar, near the Al-Ghizlaniyah area in the southeastern Damascus countryside. In addition to the five deaths, a man and two women were injured with varying degrees of burns.

Preliminary reports from the Syrian Civil Defense said the fire likely started from a heater inside one of the tents before spreading to a nearby shelter.

Civil defense teams responded to the scene, containing the fire and preventing further spread. The injured were evacuated to receive medical care.

The incident highlights safety risks in temporary settlements, where tents often lack basic fire protection and heating devices can pose hazards.
