220 displaced families leave Idlib camps to return home across eight Syrian provinces

Idlib, Oct. 25 (SANA) A convoy carrying 220 displaced families left camps in northern Idlib on Sunday to return voluntarily to their hometowns across eight Syrian provinces, as efforts continue to help Syrians displaced by years of war return home.

The families are heading to communities in Idlib, Hama, Homs, Aleppo, Deir Ezzor, Latakia, Damascus and Damascus Countryside, with most originally from southern Idlib and northern and western Hama countryside.

The convoy was organized by Idlib Governorate in cooperation with the Directorate of Social Affairs and Labor, the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Muzn Organization and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent. A UN delegation attended the aid distribution.

Mohammad Bakir, director of the Northern District of Social Affairs and Labor in Idlib, told SANA that returning families received bedding kits and other essential household supplies from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent, along with food baskets and ready-to-eat canned goods provided by Violet Organization.

He said food baskets were being distributed to families traveling in return convoys for the first time.

For Fatima al-Ahmad, returning to Qleidin village in Hama’s al-Ghab Plain marks the end of 13 years of displacement.

She told SANA that she initially lived in tents before moving into other accommodation and expressed relief at finally returning home.

Hanadi Diab, who is returning to Deir Ezzor, described conditions in the camps as difficult, saying families had been forced by circumstances to remain there.

She expressed hope that conditions across Syria would improve, allowing more displaced families to return to their communities.

Murhaf al-Saffan, who lived in al-Karama camps, said residents had endured years of hardship and continued to face difficult conditions.

Despite partial damage to his home, he said he had decided to return.

The convoy is part of ongoing efforts to rehabilitate damaged communities and facilitate the return of displaced Syrians under the “Syria Without Camps” initiative.

The initiative includes providing humanitarian assistance and essential household supplies to families returning to their areas of origin.
