Water level rises in Khabur River, people fear floods

 (Zaman Al Wasl)- Dozens of families have evacuated their homes in northeastern Hasaka province to avoid an imminent floods due to rise of water level in the Khabur and Jijk rivers, local activists said Sunday.

After five years of drought in Syria, the heavy rain has rised water levels in rivers and has filled empty ponds and dams, such a joy for locals marred with tragedy.

Two children were over the week drowned in Hasaka due to the flash floods, Civil Defense and activists said as floods destroyed at least 20 houses in the town of al-Shaddadi.
