'President and Women' sitcom has sparked outrage within the opposition
ranks as well as the Assad loyalist since the YouTube series first
episode has been streamed online Feb 15.
The Syrian political sitcom, which produced by
Zaman Alwasl newspaper, follows in a comedian approach the relationship between
presidents of the dictatorship regimes and women, as their romantic
relationships and scandals.
The main character is tyrant Bashar al-Assad, the events derived from
what have been leaked from his secret life and his multi-relationships to
highlight the impact of these affairs on his decisions and behavior, Fouad
Humeira, director and scriptwriter, said.
The controversy which has been erupted is clear evidence that the sitcom
has been succeeded to deliver its message, Humeira said.
The dissident Alawite writer said to Zaman Alwasl Arabic that his first
YouTube sitcom is totally different than his previous soap operas and its injustice
to have comparison between.
Prominent Syrian activists have accused Humeira of insulting the Syrian
revolution by this 'silly episode'.
On other side, many activists have praised Humeria's work, saying, it
was the first time Syrian drama has mocked of al-Assad and his inner circle.
Humeira asked his fans, critics and activists to give his new social
media experience more time and to watch the next episodes to give their final
judgment.
The sitcom is starring of prominent actress Mai Skaf with number of
talented artists from Syria and Jordan.
‘President and Women’ will be an initial step for more big ideas by Zaman Alwasl to be translated via social media whichs has founded a ground for creativity with high spaces of freedom which we can not find through the TV screens.
