(Zaman Al Wasl)- A notice hangging on a door of Jewish property in the Old City of Damascus has sparked a wave of speculation.
The door was hung with a paper stating that "The (this) property has been closed for the benefit of the Higher Committee for Jewish Affairs.
The image of the property on which the paper was attached came as Tel Aviv says intention to claim a number of countries in the region, including Syria, must pay $250 billion as a 'compensation" for confiscated Jewish property.
According to official documents obtained by Zaman al-Wasl, the Syrian regime has two bodies for the Syrian Jews welfare and property. The first is the Board of Directors of the Absentee Property and the second is headed by the aide to the Interior Minister.
The Jewish situation in Syria is still a kind of taboo, distorted by whether positive or negative exaggerations.
Their relationship with Bashar and Hafedh Al-Asad regimes is confused and penetrating in their mutual interests.
An intelligence book obtained and already published by Zaman al-Wasl, revealed a normalizing of this relationship, where the regime seems very keen to protect the Jews and their property.
According to document issued by the military intelligence, Branch 271, reassures the Jews and all those interested in their affairs that their property in Syria is "protected" and that their return to it is available and there is no obstacle to it.
Syria’s Jewish ended up living on certain streets and communities within the central cities, especially Aleppo, Qamishli and Damascus. In the latter, most of the Jews were living in the "Al-Ameen" neighborhood, which is now known as the "Jewish Quarter."
That most of the Jews came out of Syria (the population numbered in 1943 to about 30 thousand people), and left only a few, after an agreement between the US administration and Hafedh al-Assad, the items and details remain confidential.
