2.5 million Captagon pills seized in joint Syrian-Iraqi operation

The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Thursday the seizure of approximately 2.5 million Captagon pills and the dismantling of an international criminal network in a joint security operation with Iraq.

In a statement, the Ministry said that the Anti-Narcotics Directorate, in cooperation with its Iraqi counterpart, conducted a targeted operation against a network specializing in the manufacture, distribution, and smuggling of narcotics. This followed a systematic intelligence operation that included gathering, analyzing, and exchanging information between the two sides, as well as monitoring the network's structure, logistical routes, and operational methods.

The statement explained that simultaneous field operations took place in the Syrian governorates of Homs and Rural Damascus, in addition to areas within Iraq. These operations resulted in the arrest of two individuals inside Syria and the detention of a third individual inside Iraq, along with the seizure of approximately 2.5 million Captagon pills.

The Ministry indicated that the detainees were referred to the competent judicial authorities to face the necessary legal proceedings. It emphasized that this operation disrupted the network's operational capabilities and severed one of its main drug smuggling routes.
