Syrian security forces arrested Major General Ali Younes, the former head of Branch 293, and began investigating him on charges of financial corruption and security abuses.
Younes held several leadership positions within the security apparatus of the former regime, most notably as deputy head of the Military Intelligence Directorate and head of the security committee in Homs Governorate until 2013.
Branch 293, known as the "Officers' Affairs" branch, was a key chapter in his security career due to its sensitive nature, which involved monitoring and interrogating army officers.
