At their first private face-to-face meeting in a year, U.S. President Barack Obama will try to find common ground with Russia's President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of a G8 summit in Northern Ireland after angering the Kremlin by authorising U.S. military support for the Syrian president's opponents. 

UN says war crimes in Syria are a "daily reality", the reported killings highlight the sectarian nature of the Assad regime that has killed more than 93,000 people, according to the UN.
