Jordan's move towards Assad sparks fears in southern Syria

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Jordan has maintained a disciplined policy in the Syrian crisis and has followed a moderate methodology like other regional countries in the Syrian south especially after the balance of power in the south began to emerge.

While the recent Jordanian statements raised the concerns of the Syrian south, which is out of control of the regime, especially that it came in harmony with the regime.

The Minister of Media Affairs Mohammed al-Momani said on Friday in official statement to the Jordanian television that relations between Jordan and the Syrian state are moving to a positive course.

After all indicators have become clear that something is being prepared in the Syrian south aiming to prevent the approaching of sectarian militias and the Syrian regime from the Syrian-Jordanian border.

Syrian journalist Muayad Abazid said these data may not change anything on the ground in southern Syria included in the the US-Russian-Jordanian de-escalation agreement, and this agreement has governed the nature of border relations on the ground between Jordan and the Assad regime especially after the activation of the Amman office to manage and enforce the southern truce to reach an appropriate formula between the opposition and the regime in the south to end the conflict and achieve regional and international interests not those of the Syrian people.

The statements of Jordan minister in the event of stability in the south and enforcement of the cease-fire agreement will pave the way for the reopening of the border crossings. What is meant here is Naseeb crossing point with Jordan, without mentioning the mechanism of opening the crossings or the party responsible for its management.

According to activists in Daraa, Jordan after the announcement of the cease-fire agreement south of Syria began to work to re-improve relations with the regime after taking a negative turn in late April, where Jordan resorted to an unprecedented manner in its political relationship with Syria following statements by Bashar al-Assad to the Russian agency in response to the latter's remarks questioned that Jordan (an independent state) in reference to the time that Jordan is led by international dictates and may intervene militarily in Syrian territory.

While the response of the spokesman Mohammed Momani for his surprise on the way in which Assad spoke about Jordan when Assad himself cannot control the majority of his land.

But the regime and its allies know the importance of the Jordanian role in the southern region because of its relationship with the armed opposition factions in the south and the south-east and the desire of Jordan to maintain its adopted political moderation towards the Syrian issue during the seven years of the revolution.

In addition, the American-Jordinan-Russian agreement proves the desire of the international and regional powers to reach a solution in partnership between the regime and the opposition and exert their full weight for the success of this solution and the possibility of applying it if it succeeds on the whole of Syrian territory.

A military source of the opposition, who declined to be named, said, “the military factions in the south of Syria in Daraa were able to stop the plan, which the regime and its militias in the region sought to reach the Jordanian border and open the crossings and the domination of the regime and its militias on the region. The regime realized this following major losses in the battle of "death and no humiliation" launched by the rebels of Daraa to face the scheme of the regime and its militias.

The regime was forced to resort to political solution in the region, which confirms that opposition can stand against any regional and international schemes stand against the aspirations of the Syrian people to rid of regime oppression and tyranny. This makes the international and regional arrangements in the Syrian south difficult. "

He pointed out that Jordan has carried a heavy burden over the past years militarily, securityally and economically as a result of military operations in the southern region, which ended in tens of thousands of refugees from the region towards Jordan and its borders.

Regarding this, activist Nageeb Abu Orwa said, "what is required now at this very important and crucial stage is to produce a project in which all the civil and military forces in the southern region participate and agree on and propose it to the international and regional actors in the southern region and the possibility of accepting it by these actors. So that it would be a collective project that is not intransigent towards any proposal that will bring salvation to the region without compromising basic principles or rejecting all that is proposed.
